If the Canterbury Cougars were feeling good off their 88-54 takedown of the Ida Baker Bulldogs last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Canterbury took a serious blow against Charlotte on Thursday, falling 76-38. While losing is never fun, Canterbury can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 562nd, while Charlotte is ranked 113th).
Despite the loss, Canterbury still got an impressive performance from Landon Mashburn, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Collin Meagher, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Jordan Attia went supernova for Charlotte, going 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Attia has scored all season. Chris Cornish was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds.
Canterbury has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Charlotte, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-10.
Canterbury won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Seacrest Country Day at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Seacrest Country Day is out to stop a ten-game streak of losses at home. Charlotte will take on Oasis at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Oasis focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
