Basketball Recap: Flatirons Academy Continues Home Dominance on Friday

There's no place like home for Flatirons Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They managed a 54-48 win over the Evangel Christian Academy Eagles on Friday. Given the Bison's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Eagles are ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Flatirons Academy had a senior duo take command as Trey Abeyta went 5 of 7 en route to 15 points and Parker Wilson dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Abeyta has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Jackson Schulz, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Flatirons Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Flatirons Academy pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Evangel Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Flatirons Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Belleview Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Flatirons Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. As for Evangel Christian Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-43 victory against Cotopaxi on the 21st.
