Basketball Recap: Kermit Piles Up the Points Against Tornillo

Kermit had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They blew past the Tornillo Coyotes 61-8. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 675th, while the Coyotes are ranked 1556th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kermit's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ebbin Mallory led the charge by putting up seven points along with 15 rebounds and seven steals. That's the most boards Mallory has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leylani Quiroz, who posted nine points and seven steals.

Kermit smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 20 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Kermit has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.7 points per game. As for Tornillo, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.

Kermit has already played their next match (against Presidio), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Tornillo has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against Anthony.
