If the Simi Valley Pioneers were riding high off their 60-40 takedown of the Oak Park Eagles on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Simi Valley opened the new year with a less-than-successful 58-47 loss to Moorpark. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Simi Valley has scored all season.
Simi Valley's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ryder Mjoen, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds, and Kyle Hoffer who scored 11 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Mjoen scored a full 48.9% of Simi Valley's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ryder Sharts, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Simi Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Moorpark, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simi Valley will take on Camarillo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Moorpark, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Royal at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Royal presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Moorpark in California (Royal is ranked 172nd, while Moorpark is ranked 479th).
