Baseball Recap: Destiny Christian Wins Going Away Against Sunrise Christian Academy

Destiny Christian not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 3rd. They put the hurt on the Sunrise Christian Academy Buffaloes with a sharp 13-1 victory. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

Jase Blackwell made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Destiny Christian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Robert Rose, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Levi McCutchan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Destiny Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. Sunrise Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Destiny Christian will challenge Putnam City at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sunrise Christian Academy, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will challenge St. Mary's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's Academy will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Sunrise Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
