The Newark Norsemen will challenge the Morris Redskins at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Newark is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
On Monday, Newark didn't have quite enough to beat Gardner-South Wilmington and fell 5-4.
Rylie Carlson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Carlson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Carlson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adelaide Johnson, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Morris got their first taste of in-conference action on Monday and they started things off strong. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Rochelle. The Redskins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Tessa Cryder looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Halie Olson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karson Dransfeldt, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Morris kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rochelle only managed five hits.
Morris pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Newark, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Newark hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Morris struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Newark beat Morris 3-0 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Norsemen repeat their success, or do the Redskins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
