The Argenta-Oreana Bombers will venture away from home to square off against the Sullivan Redskins at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Argenta-Oreana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Argenta-Oreana lost 12-2 to Arcola on Thursday. The Bombers have struggled against the Purple Riders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Argenta-Oreana saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Logue, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Logue has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Landon Jackson was another, going 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Sullivan can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They put the hurt on Heritage with a sharp 16-4 victory. The Redskins' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Caden Saul was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kolton Wiley, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
Argenta-Oreana's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Sullivan, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Argenta-Oreana has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Sullivan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Argenta-Oreana came out on top in a nail-biter against Sullivan in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bombers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
