The Gainesville Cardinals will head out to face off against the Riverside Ram at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gainesville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Gainesville was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They skirted past Battlefield 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Addison Brathwaite spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cameryn Denhup was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Kendall Woods also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Riverside posted their closest victory since March 24th on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Briar Woods 3-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Ram as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Riverside also got a great performance from Kaylee Kadans as she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ashley Bui, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Gainesville's record is now 3-5. As for Riverside, their record now sits at 8-5.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gainesville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Riverside struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
