Wilson Prep's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paris Taylor, who scored five points along with two steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Taylor posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Nakiya Boston, who scored eight points along with two blocks.
North Edgecombe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from ChyAsia Garrett, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Le'Lah Jenkins was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with five steals.
Wilson Prep dropped their record down to 2-12 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.7 points per game. As for North Edgecombe, their win bumped their record up to 9-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilson Prep will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in North Carolina (Rocky Mount Prep is ranked 593rd, while the Tigers are ranked 575th). As for North Edgecombe, they will head out on the road to square off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
