Mechanicsburg will venture away from home to face off against Cedarville at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Mechanicsburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Mechanicsburg didn't have quite enough to beat West Liberty-Salem and fell 2-1. The matchup marked the Indians' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Mechanicsburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eli Wilson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cedarville entered their tilt with Southeastern Local on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Trojans.
Zach Creeden made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cedarville is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Creeden was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tavin Baldwin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tristan Berkheiser, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Cedarville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mechanicsburg, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mechanicsburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cedarville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mechanicsburg came up short against Cedarville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 10-7. Can Mechanicsburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
