The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers will take on the Starpoint Spartans at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mercyhurst Prep will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Mercyhurst Prep came out on top against Eisenhower on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Lakers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Knights. The result was nothing new for the Lakers, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Josh Majczyk made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mercyhurst Prep let Tanner Ashton and Zack Kruszewski run wild. Ashton went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Kruszewski went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Kruszewski's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Coleman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Mercyhurst Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Starpoint hadn't done well against Williamsville South recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Billies. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Starpoint got a massive performance out of NICK PREZIOSO, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was NICK NUNZIO, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Mercyhurst Prep pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Starpoint, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
