After flying high against the Hundred Hornets last Friday, The Valley Lumberjacks came back down to earth. Valley took a 40-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Magnolia on Friday.
Despite the loss, Valley had strong showings from Gavin Derby, who rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and Landen Jerico, who picked up 164 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Jerico's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards.
Valley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for Magnolia, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.
Valley will square off against Paden City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in West Virginia (Paden City is ranked 87th, while Valley is ranked 94th). As for Magnolia, they will head out on the road to face off against Clay-Battelle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
