The Solomon Gorillas struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Classical Saints had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Solomon's tough 64-40 loss to the Saints might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Solomon in their matchups with the Saints: they've now lost four in a row.
Solomon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Duran, who scored ten points along with six steals. Calvin Mattison was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Classical's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Charlie Graham led the charge by scoring 16 points. Another player making a difference was Sam Wilkey, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Solomon's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-6. As for Classical, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
Solomon will take on the Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Little River focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Monday. As for Classical, they will head out on the road to take on the Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hartford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Saints are ranked 81st).
