Basketball Game Preview: Douglas County Huskies vs. Mountain Range Mustangs

The Douglas County Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Mountain Range Mustangs at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Douglas County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.5 points per game this season.

Douglas County is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Mountain Vista on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Douglas County was beaten by Mountain Vista 79-46. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 11th).

Douglas County's loss came about despite a quality game from Roman Saiz, who posted 13 points and three steals. Saiz is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Dale, who earned 16 points.

Mountain Range hasn't had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They walked away with a 61-54 victory over Westminster on Tuesday.

Douglas County better focus on containing Preston Brunton and Moses West as the pair were huge in Mountain Range's win. Brunton went 9 for 15 en route to 22 points and six rebounds, while West dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. Vincent Lawrence also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Mountain Range's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Douglas County, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Douglas County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mountain Range struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.2 boards.
