The Webster County Highlanders came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 92-53 win over Gilmer County. Webster County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Webster County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Raydan Triplett, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Triplett has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Riley Clevenger, who scored 24 points along with five assists and three steals.
Gilmer County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Bush, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachariah Wine, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Webster County's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.0 points per game. As for Gilmer County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Webster County will stay at home for another game and welcome the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on February 5th. Braxton County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Highlanders are ranked 29th). As for Gilmer County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Calhoun is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
