The Pomona Panthers came into Saturday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 68-58 victory over Conifer on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Pomona's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Joshua James, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten assists. James also pulled down eight rebounds for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dj Hawkins, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Benson White and Issac Pratt certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. White scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Pratt scored 24 points. Another player making a difference was Evan Dougherty, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Conifer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pomona only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Pomona's win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Conifer, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pomona will take on Littleton at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pomona is on a three-game streak of home losses, Littleton a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Conifer will take on Evergreen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Evergreen's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests.
