The Balboa Buccaneers will head out on the road to square off against the O'Connell Boilermakers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Balboa and 16 for the Boilermakers dating back to last season.
On Monday, Balboa took a serious blow against the Eagles, falling 82-52. Balboa has struggled against the Eagles recently, as their contest on Monday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Je'Mon Brown put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 15 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Hart, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 73-19, which was the final score in O'Connell's tilt against the Mustangs on Friday. While losing is never fun, O'Connell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1278th, while the Mustangs are ranked 430th).
Balboa has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for O'Connell, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14.
Balboa came out on top in a nail-biter against the Boilermakers in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Balboa since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
