Licking Heights had lost seven games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 3-13 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Northridge Vikings. That's more bragging rights for the Hornets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Brady Pennington was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Licking Heights' success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 1-12 when he doesn't). Pennington was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Pennington wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maxim Fink, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Remy Alcorn also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
As for Northridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.
On Northridge's side, Kade Matheson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Matheson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kash Reeves made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Mason, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Licking Heights will welcome Dublin Scioto at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northridge, they will be playing at home against Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
