Brentwood hasn't had much luck against Gatewood recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Brentwood War Eagles will face off against the Gatewood Gators at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Brentwood will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Trinity Christian, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Brentwood walked away with a 68-56 victory over Trinity Christian on Friday. Given the War Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 186th, while the Crusaders are ranked 536th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brentwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zyion Andrews out in front who posted 17 points. That's the most points Andrews has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylor Cobb, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Gatewood entered their tilt with Central Fellowship Christian Academy last Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They came out on top against the Lancers by a score of 80-70.
Brentwood better keep an eye on Matt Allen. He was instrumental in Gatewood's win, dropping a double-double with 38 points and 13 boards. That makes it 21 consecutive games in which Allen has scored at least a third of Gatewood's points. Kaden Keiser was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Gatewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive games.
Gatewood pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.4 points over those games. As for Brentwood, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Brentwood and Gatewood are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Brentwood hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 64.5 points per game. However, it's not like Gatewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 71.3 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Brentwood came up short against Gatewood when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 77-70. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Allen, who shot 7-for-13 from deep and dropped a double-double with 47 points and 15 boards. Now that Brentwood knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
