Hutchinson-Central Tech won the last time they faced McKinley and things went their way on Saturday too. The Engineers were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Macks. Considering the Engineers have won six matches by more than ten runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Ricaldo Valdez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only one earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Valdez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nico Soto and Niko Mercado did most of the damage at the plate: Soto got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Mercado got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those two RBI gave Soto a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Joe Platt, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
The victory (which was Hutchinson-Central Tech's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
