The Mountain Valley Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Poland Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mountain Valley has four straight victories, Poland has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
While Mountain Valley didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over St. Dominic on Monday.
Mountain Valley got a massive performance out of Madisyn McLean, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hayden Chase, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Mountain Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Dominic only posted an OBP of .306.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Poland and Lake Region have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Knights lost 10-2 to the Lakers.
Olivia Rioux was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season.
Mountain Valley's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. As for Poland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Poland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mountain Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .526. It's a different story for Poland, though, as they've only averaged .355. Will they be able to contain Mountain Valley's hitters?
Mountain Valley suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Poland when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
