After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Marys, the Charleston Catholic Irish were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They escaped with a win against Bridgeport by the margin of a single free throw, 44-43. For Charleston Catholic, this counts as revenge for the 31-23 loss Bridgeport walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2014.
Charleston Catholic found their leader in underclassman Mary Rushworth, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Rushworth has scored at least 25% of Charleston Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Layla Carter, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Charleston Catholic now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Bridgeport, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Charleston Catholic's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hoover at 1:30 p.m. on December 16th. As for Bridgeport, they will take on Robert C. Byrd at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
