Mountain Crest is 1-9 against Bear River since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mustangs will host the Bears at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Mountain Crest's offense. They lost 11-0 to Deseret Peak on Wednesday.
Mountain Crest got a good showing from Morgan Coulam, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, Coulam didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent over her last four games.
At the plate, Mountain Crest saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sage Walker, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Bear River never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Tooele on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Buffaloes. With that win, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Kate Wilson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Molly Canfield and Londyn Gamble did most of the damage at the plate: Canfield went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Gamble got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four hits gave Canfield a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Samantha Theurer, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Bear River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tooele only posted an OBP of .261.
Bear River's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Mountain Crest, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
