Basketball Game Preview: Kellis Cougars vs. Browne Bruins

The Kellis Cougars will be taking part in a tournament against the Browne Bruins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Kellis knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Browne likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Kellis got the win against Washington by a conclusive 72-48.

It was another big night for Jordan Parrish, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 18 boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zion Woods, who went 7 of 17 en route to 18 points and five rebounds.

Kellis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Browne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Tucson High Magnet School 90-47. While losing is never fun, the Bruins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 200th, while the Badgers are ranked ninth).

Kellis will have to contain Tony Bayigamba as he made an impact in Browne's last game. He dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Desmynn Beavers-Smith, who posted eight points.

Kellis has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Browne, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 4-8.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Kellis has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Browne struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.8 boards.
