Yazoo County hasn't had much luck against St. Andrew's Episcopal recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Panthers will square off against the Saints at 12:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Friday. Yazoo County was the clear victor by a 20-4 margin over Amanda Elzy. The victory was nothing new for Yazoo County as they're now sitting on five straight.
Cameron Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Will Andrews was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Myron Straughter was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Yazoo County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, St. Andrew's Episcopal entered their tilt with Pelahatchie on Friday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They never let the Chiefs get on the board and left with a 10-0 win.
Like Yazoo County, St. Andrew's Episcopal also got a great game from a two-way player: Stone Myrick. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Myrick was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Cash Myrick and Marco Leflore did most of the damage at the plate: Cash scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Leflore went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Drew McDonald, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Yazoo County pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Andrew's Episcopal, their record is now 16-6.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Yazoo County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .501. However, it's not like St. Andrew's Episcopal struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Yazoo County came up short against St. Andrew's Episcopal when the teams last played back in March of 2022, falling 9-4. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
