The Pascagoula Panthers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Velma Jackson Falcons at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Pascagoula is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.
Pascagoula has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 23 points or more this season. They breezed by Bay on the road to the tune of 75-19. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Pascagoula has managed all season.
Meanwhile, Velma Jackson beat St. Andrew's Episcopal 54-43 on Friday. 54 seems to be a good number for Velma Jackson as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Velma Jackson had a senior duo take command as Cornell Bacon dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds and Cameron Tate scored 17 points along with four steals. That's the first time this season that Bacon scored 15 or more points. Jamarquez Davis was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Pascagoula's win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Velma Jackson, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season.
Pascagoula might still be hurting after the 45-24 defeat they got from Velma Jackson when the teams last played back in December of 2014. Thankfully for Pascagoula, Moses Greenwood (who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
