Basketball Recap: Pueblo Skates Past Cienega with Ease

Pueblo came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Cienega Bobcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 68-30 win. The Warriors pushed the score to 61-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bobcats cut but never quite recovered from.

Pueblo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but America Cazares led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 34 points and nine rebounds. Cazares has been hot for a while, having posted 20 or more points the last 19 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Espinoza, who dropped a triple-double with ten points, 16 boards, and ten steals.

Pueblo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests.

Cienega's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Lopez, who posted four points along with five rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance gave Lopez a new career-high in boards.

Pueblo's victory bumped their record up to 22-3. As for Cienega, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season.

Looking ahead, Pueblo will venture away from home to challenge Nogales at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Cecilia Burruel and Cazares. As for Cienega, they will be playing at home against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
