The Mohawk Area Warriors will challenge the Blackhawk Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Mohawk Area is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They came up short against Wilmington, falling 14-8.
Vinny Pezzuolo and Bobby Fadden stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pezzuolo went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Fadden went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Chapman, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Mohawk Area hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilmington struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Blackhawk had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Talbots, sneaking past 6-4. While the Cougars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Carter Davis made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Davis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Connor Welsh was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Sam Saliba also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Blackhawk's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Mohawk Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Everything went Mohawk Area's way against Blackhawk in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Mohawk Area made off with a 14-4 victory. Does Mohawk Area have another victory up their sleeve, or will Blackhawk turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
