Upland (Calif.) grabbed the lead when
Tyler Hilinski threw a touchdown to
Trevor Wright with 3:00 remaining in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Santiago (Corona, Calif.) 30-29 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured three lead swaps.
The Highlanders/Scots led 10-3 at halftime, but the Sharks regained the lead on a touchdown run by
Nathan Tilford with less than a minute remaining in the third.
Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter, so the margin remained at seven at the start of the fourth.
Santiago missed two extra point attempts in the loss.
Upland also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 45-41.
The loss comes after Santiago defeated Eisenhower 35-14 last week.
The Corona school (6-6) will play a playoff game against Upland next week. The Highlanders/Scots will bring a record of 8-3 into the meeting.
