The Belvidere Bucs were the 68-58 winner over the Jefferson J-Hawks when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Belvidere took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jefferson. Belvidere has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Belvidere lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Emma Pierson. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Pierson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna LaBeau, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Jefferson found their leader in underclassman Abbie Bracius, who scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bracius has scored all season. Tamara Blackmon was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Belvidere has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Jefferson, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belvidere on the road again on Friday and play against Rockford East at 6:30 p.m. on January 19th. Rockford East has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17. As for Jefferson, they will head out on the road to take on Guilford at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Guilford will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
