A big part of Morgan's victory came down to the chemistry between Cade Randall and his top target Eli Mortensen. Randall threw for 259 yards and five TDs while Mortensen picked up 97 receiving yards and four scores. Randall has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. George Thurston was in the mix as well, providing Morgan with two touchdowns.
Morgan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: William Pace and Talon Smith, who each picked up one interception apiece.
Meanwhile, Manti was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past North Sanpete 55-17. The result was nothing new for the Templars, who have now won six contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Manti's win came from a few key players Morgan will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tala Taulapapa, who rushed for 98 yards and a pair of TDs on only five carries, and also threw for 80 yards and one touchdown. His longest rush was for an impressive 50 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Carter Mason was another key player, throwing for 260 yards and three TDs while completing 78.6% of his passes.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Manti proved: they limited North Sanpete to a paltry 2.7 yards per carry. While three picked up at least ten total tackles, Taulapapa stood above the rest. He rushed for 98 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries, and also threw for 80 yards and one touchdown. Manti didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 15.8.
Morgan's record now sits at 10-1. As for Manti, their record is now 8-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Morgan has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 350.4 total yards per game. However, it's not like Manti struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 415 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Morgan strolled past Manti in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a score of 42-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
