Alonso is 2-8 against Wharton since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Ravens will welcome the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Alonso 3.3, Wharton 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Alonso is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since March 17th on Monday. They lost 8-2 to East Bay. The Ravens have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Raymond Llanes was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Daniel Despaine was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Wharton got the win against Hillsborough on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Wildcats have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Connor Evans looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wharton let Justis Meadows and Drew Cobb run wild. Meadows went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double, while Cobb scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, Cobb posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Fawcett, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Wharton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillsborough only posted an OBP of .364.
Wharton's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Alonso, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.
Alonso came up short against Wharton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 7-2. Will the Ravens have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
