Baseball Recap: Sherman Wins Going Away Against Mingo Central

Sherman won against Capital last Tuesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Everything went Sherman's way against the Mingo Central Miners as Sherman made off with a 13-5 win. For the Tide, this counts as revenge for the 6-5 victory the Miners walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Luke Tagliente made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Sherman is undefeated when Tagliente posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Oliver Harless, who scored a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Bryce Mooney was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Sherman is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. Mingo Central's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Coming up, Sherman will square off against St. Joseph Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sherman 3.3, St. Joseph Central 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Mingo Central, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Pike County Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
