Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Jager Burton of
Frederick Douglass (Lexington) is the 2020 MaxPreps Kentucky High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound senior helped the Broncos go 7-2 this fall and became the first offensive lineman to earn the Paul Hornung Award, which recognizes the state's top player.
247Sports rated Burton the No. 66 overall prospect in the Class of 2021 and the No. 3 offensive guard.
Already enrolled at Kentucky, Burton received offers from Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Oklahoma among others.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
