Baseball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Wayne

Wayne extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 12-5 in the process. They put the hurt on the Tekamah-Herman Tigers with a sharp 11-1 win. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Jaxson Kneifl made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alex Rodriguez was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Reinhardt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Wayne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.

As for Tekamah-Herman, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly ten runs.

On Tekamah-Herman's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cale Belfrage, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wayne is set to square off against their familiar foe Central City/Centura at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Devils 4, the Kernels 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Tekamah-Herman will take on rival Guardian Angels Central Catholic/West Point Beemer at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
