Morro Bay and Nipomo are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Morro Bay Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Nipomo Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Morro Bay has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 189 points over their last three matchups.
Last Monday, it was close, but Morro Bay ultimately received the gift of a 56-54 victory from a begrudging Piratessquad.
Morro Bay got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonas Smith out in front who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jake Falat, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Nipomo came up short against Fresno Christian on Friday and fell 61-52. While losing is never fun, Nipomo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 902nd, while Fresno Christian is ranked 274th).
Morro Bay is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Nipomo, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-9.
Morro Bay lost to Nipomo on the road by a decisive 67-52 margin when the teams last played back in February. Can Morro Bay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
