Basketball Game Preview: Rancho Cotate Cougars vs. Technology Titans

Having just played yesterday, the Rancho Cotate Cougars will get right back to it and host the Technology Titans at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rancho Cotate has four straight wins, Technology has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Rancho Cotate will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Sonoma Valley, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Rancho Cotate really took it to Sonoma Valley for the full four quarters, racking up an 89-49 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Adam Pengel continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 of 8 from beyond the arc en route to 37 points and four steals. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Izayah Rush, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals.

Rancho Cotate smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Technology had to suffer through a 53-20 loss at the hands of Point Arena. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1130th, while the Pirates are ranked 273rd).

Technology's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Rancho Cotate, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Rancho Cotate against Technology in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, as the team secured an 84-27 victory. In that matchup, Rancho Cotate amassed a halftime lead of 43-18, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
