The East Laurens Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 30 points or more this season. They took their match at home on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 61-19 victory over Wheeler County. The win was nothing new for East Laurens as they're now sitting on three straight.
East Laurens was led to victory by Jayla Givens and McKayela Tanner. Givens dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Tanner dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Tanner has scored at least 25% of East Laurens' points. Deanna Lowther was another key contributor, scoring six points along with 17 rebounds and six steals.
Despite the defeat, Wheeler County saw an underclassman step up: Justise Dubose scored seven points along with 13 rebounds and three steals. Dubose is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Even though they lost, Wheeler County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Laurens only pulled down 24 offensive rebounds.
East Laurens has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Wheeler County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
East Laurens will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Treutlen at 5:00 p.m. on December 30th. Wheeler County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bacon County at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Hopefully Bacon County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
