The Malcolm Clippers will head out on the road to face off against the Lincoln Christian Crusaders at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Malcolm is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Last Saturday, Malcolm made easy work of North Platte and carried off a 13-3 victory. The Clippers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.
Mason Wisnieski was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Mcgreer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Malcolm always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Platte only posted an OBP of .400.
Meanwhile, Lincoln Christian fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lincoln Lutheran on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 8-7. The Crusaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Caleb DeWitt was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Grant DeHaan was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs while going 3-for-5. Drew Mittan also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Lincoln Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Malcolm, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Malcolm hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Lincoln Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Malcolm took their victory against Lincoln Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Clippers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
