Evergreen Valley and Mt. Pleasant are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Evergreen Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
San Jose hit Evergreen Valley with a five-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 10-9. The Cougars have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Sabrina Gahir made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Villalba, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Yerba Buena on Friday as they made off with a 23-9 win. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.
Brooklyn Flores was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Gonzales, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Mt. Pleasant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Mt. Pleasant's victory bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Evergreen Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Evergreen Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Mt. Pleasant struggles in that department as they've averaged .622. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
