North Clay/Clay City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 55-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. That's two games in a row now that North Clay/Clay City has lost by exactly seven points.
North Clay/Clay City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexis VanDyke, who scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds. VanDyke has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Miah Ballard, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City was led to victory by Macee Rodman and Ruby Stuckemeyer. Rodman scored 22 points along with eight rebounds, while Stuckemeyer dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Rodman has scored at least a third of Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's points. Another player making a difference was Karlee Smith, who scored five points.
North Clay/Clay City has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Clay/Clay City will face off against Farina South Central at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Farina South Central is ranked 425th, while North Clay/Clay City is ranked 429th). As for Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, they will head out on the road to take on Warrensburg-Latham at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Warrensburg-Latham is on a five-game streak of home losses, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
