Even though the Spearfish Spartans have not done well against the Red Cloud Crusaders recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Spearfish walked away with a 56-45 win over Red Cloud. The win made it back-to-back wins for Spearfish.
Spearfish's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dylon Doren led the charge by scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Seth Hamilton, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Red Cloud still got an impressive performance from Monty Montileaux, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Caden Pourier was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Spearfish has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season. As for Red Cloud, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.
Spearfish's road trip will continue as they head out to face More at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. More will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Red Cloud will take on Pine Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pine Ridge presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Red Cloud in South Dakota (Pine Ridge is ranked eighth, while Red Cloud is ranked 54th).
