Basketball Game Preview: Crystal City Javelinas vs. Cotulla Cowboys

Crystal City is 9-1 against Cotulla since December of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Crystal City Javelinas will be playing at home against the Cotulla Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Crystal City's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matchups.

Last Friday, everything went Crystal City's way against Hondo as Crystal City made off with an 88-63 win. The Javelinas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 21 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Christopher Mena, who almost dropped a triple-double on 27 points, 11 boards, and nine assists. The contest was his 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Urrabazo, who went 10 for 19 en route to 20 points.

Crystal City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Cotulla had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Dilley 60-36 on Friday. With the Cowboys ahead 33-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Crystal City is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.9 points per game. As for Cotulla, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-14.

Everything came up roses for Crystal City against Cotulla in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 76-36 win. In that match, Crystal City amassed a halftime lead of 50-19, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
