The Fairbanks Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Catholic Central by a score of 38-35. Fairbanks was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Catholic Central apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reese Poling, who scored six points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachael Hoover, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Fairbanks has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Catholic Central, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fairbanks will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Columbus School for Girls at 7:30 p.m. on December 30th. Catholic Central will finish 2023 at home by hosting Triad at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Triad focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Saturday.
