The Newcomb Skyhawks lost against the Texico Wolverines back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Newcomb took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of Texico. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Newcomb in their matchups with Texico: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Newcomb still got an impressive performance from Michaela Roanhorse, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Miller, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Newcomb struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Newcomb's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Texico, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newcomb will be home for the holidays to greet Bloomfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Bloomfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Monday. Texico and Fort Sumner/House will face off at 3:30 p.m. on December 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
