Hooks is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Daingerfield is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hooks Hornets will take on the Daingerfield Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Hooks walked away with it. They blew past Edgewood 92-57 on the road. Given Hooks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 154th, while Edgewood is ranked 636th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hooks' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ripken Birdwell, who threw for 345 yards and five touchdowns on only 16 passes, and Keyshawn Walls, who rushed for 317 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Walls was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jatavious Johnson, who picked up 166 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Hooks' defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Ra'kadrian Minter and Ranson Jones who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Daingerfield never let their opponents score on Thursday. They breezed by New Waverly on the road to the tune of 48-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Daingerfield just coasted through the last quarter.
Chase Johnson was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Another player making a difference was Ashton Williams, who rushed for 129 yards on only 11 carries.
Hooks' win bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Daingerfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
