The Eau Gallie Commodores's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 52-39 to Okeechobee. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Eau Gallie of the 48-27 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Eau Gallie lost, one person who can't be blamed is Timir Jace. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. Jace continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zander Hengehold, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Oliver Saunders was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds for Okeechobee. Saunders is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Corey Wilkerson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Eau Gallie bumped their record down to 2-10 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Okeechobee, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eau Gallie's road trip will continue as they head out to face Viera at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Viera presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Eau Gallie in Florida (Viera is ranked 141st, while Eau Gallie is ranked 560th). Okeechobee won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. Centennial and Okeechobee are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
