The Jefferson Dragons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 18th straight loss. They took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Brandon. Jefferson was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Brandon apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
Despite the loss, Jefferson saw an underclassman step up: Damaria Pitcher scored 11 points. That was a full 36.7% of Jefferson's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Laila Keys was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Leading Brandon to victory were Sofia Caserta and Julia Castany. Caserta scored 13 points, while Castany scored 18 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Castany has scored at least a third of Brandon's points.
Jefferson's defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-18. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Brandon, their win bumped their record up to 5-13.
Jefferson and King will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Jefferson is facing King at the right time seeing as King is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Brandon will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Armwood at 6:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Brandon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 525th, while Armwood is ranked 154th).
