The Maxwell Panthers will take on the Los Molinos Bulldogs in a tournament on Friday. Maxwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Maxwell is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Sutter just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 3-2.
Maxwell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Massey Baker, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Los Molinos, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They blew past Mt. Shasta 14-4 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 12 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Dakota DeMarco was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Izick Nelson and Jaydin Underwood did most of the damage at the plate: Nelson went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run, while Underwood went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Underwood has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Gillett, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Los Molinos has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Maxwell, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maxwell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Los Molinos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Maxwell came out on top in a nail-biter against Los Molinos in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
