Basketball Recap: Smithson Valley Takes a Loss

Smithson Valley lost against Wagner back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The match between the Smithson Valley Rangers and the Wagner Thunderbirds didn't end well, with the Smithson Valley Rangers falling 80-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (57), the Rangers still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Smithson Valley still got an impressive performance from Carson Moreno, who went 7 of 9 on his way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Moreno a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Clemence, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Wagner's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Thomas, who went 7 for 10 en route to 19 points and five assists. Marcus Johnson was another key player, going 7 of 10 on his way to 19 points.

Smithson Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Wagner, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-7.

Smithson Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Tivy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Smithson Valley is facing Tivy at the right time seeing as Tivy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Wagner, they will head out to take on Boerne-Champion at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Wagner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64 points per game this season.
